Priory Theater presents "The American Clock" by Arthur Miller

By Woodside Priory School (other events)

4 Dates Through Mar 08, 2015

ABOUT ABOUT

The 1930’s are vividly brought to life by one of America’s greatest playwrights, Arthur Miller, in this dramatic and at times humorous depiction of the Great Depression. Relevant, heart-warming and truthful, American Clock, is based on interviews of actual Depression survivors found in Stud Terkel's book, Hard Times.

A live Jazz band, on stage the entire time, adds a rich musical undertone to this production while the actors sing and play 50+ parts.  Loosely following the wealthy Baum family's descent into poverty in New York, the play also gives a snap shot of other Americans trying to scrape by:  despairing New York bankers contemplating hurling themselves out the window, Iowa farmers ready to hang judges threatening to take their land, and whites who find themselves on the same economic footing as their African-American and Latino neighbors.  Uplifting moments are captured too as characters try to make the best out of the hardest of times and rally for political power.

Come see Woodside Priory Theater’s production on Feb 5-7 @ 7:00 pm and Feb 8 @ 2:00 pm. Tickets are $5 student/$15 adult. You can buy them in advance at www.priory.ticketleap.com/american or at the door.  Woodside Priory Theater is located at 302 Portola Road, Portola Valley, CA 94028.
